Our Deacons
The Bible shows an organization of the church that includes not only elders and evangelists, but deacons as well. Deacons are merely servants who oversee specific works as assigned by the elders. The Bible first shows deacons in Acts 6 when seven men were chosen to oversee the work with neglected Greek widows (Acts 6:1–4). In that text, the apostles were unwilling to leave the important spiritual work to "serve tables."
Likewise, we realize that the elders simply cannot forsake important spiritual matters to handle physical things—like waiting tables. The deacons at Chelsea labor among the flock to take care of specific areas that need oversight in order to allow the shepherds to focus on the spiritual work.
